The Refill Garden Story

I stumbled across the zero-waste movement in high school, and the more I learned, the more I knew I wanted to do my part to live more sustainably and make a meaningful impact. I lived by the quote, “You cannot do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good that you can do.”

As I used up the products I already owned, I searched for more sustainable swaps, but quickly grew frustrated by the lack of education and the absence of low-waste options near me. While traveling out of town, my mom and I discovered a zero-waste refill store, sparking a conversation about how much I wished there was a space like that closer to home.

Alongside my sustainability journey, I was also beginning my plant journey after being gifted my first plants by my mom, and learning so much from her! We began dreaming about creating something together. What started as a shared passion grew into a vision for a local shop centered on community, sustainability, and plants.

At its heart, The Refill Garden is about so much more than what’s on our shelves. Every decision we make is rooted in care for our community, for the planet, and for the people behind the products we offer. We are intentional about where our goods come from, how they’re made, and the impact they leave behind.

That means being selective about the products we carry, choosing thoughtfully made, plant-based options, and avoiding ingredients that are harmful to our bodies or the environment. We value transparency, ethical practices, and supporting makers who share those same values.

We are committed to doing business with integrity through paying fairly, supporting safe and responsible production, and refusing to cut corners for the sake of profit. Every refill, every plant, and every product in our shop reflects that commitment.

Whether you’re just beginning your sustainability journey or have been walking this path for years, you are a vital part of what makes The Refill Garden possible. This space is built on connection, shared values, and the belief that small, intentional choices truly matter.

With Love,

Meet the Owners

Abrielle Lockhart

Hi, I’m Abrielle! My Mom once described me as “her kid who was going to change the world,” and I think that belief stayed with me. I’ve always been a tree-hugger, an animal lover, and someone who slows down to notice nature. I’m deeply emotional, driven, and have a heart that’s always felt bigger than my body. When I learned about environmentalism in 2019, everything changed. I couldn’t unlearn what I discovered or unsee what I witnessed. From that moment on, I knew that wherever life took me, I would dedicate myself to making a difference. And that’s what led me here

Michelle Lockhart

Hi, I’m Michelle! Proud Mom! I’m excited to meet you! I remember Abrielle constantly sharing her latest discoveries on how to better care for our environment. She was always educating me on which products I should be using, and which ones I absolutely should not be using. Safe, cruelty-free products, and she wasn’t shy about spreading the word to anyone who would listen. While on the search for a local shop that offered refillable, sustainable products, we were surprised to find there wasn’t one nearby. So, together, we founded The Refill Garden!I’m beyond excited to share what we’ve learned, inspire thoughtful choices, and grow a community that truly cares about people, the planet, and making a difference.
